Launch TNSadmin Manager GUI demo to see, how it can simplify Management of tnsnames in LDAP.
You can even try to point your Oracle client to ldap://demo.tnsadmin.com:389
and test out how it resolves your records.
Just modify some Oracle client configuration files
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (LDAP)$ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/ldap.ora:
DIRECTORY_SERVERS=(demo.tnsadmin.com:389) DIRECTORY_SERVER_TYPE = oid DEFAULT_ADMIN_CONTEXT = "dc=tnsadmin,dc=com"
Now, create a record for existing database, and you should be able to connect to it:
C:\>tnsping oradb.tnsadmin.com TNS Ping Utility for 32-bit Windows: Version 11.2.0.1.0 Used LDAP adapter to resolve the alias Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = dbserver.tnsadmin.com) (PORT = 1521)) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED) (SERVICE_NAME = ORADB.TNSADMIN.COM))) OK (10 msec)
